This is a bold pair of dangles!  Silver and Lapis Dangles sport beautiful, patterned silver beads and genuine lapis lazuli beads to create a one-of-a-kind pair of earrings.

Lapis Lazuli means ‘blue stone,’ and it is sometimes referred to simply as Lapis. The shades of blue in this crystal’s structure are rich and deep in color, and it has gold and white flecks running through it, giving it a magical, mysterious charm.

Historians believe the link between humans and lapis lazuli stretches back more than 6,500 years. The gem was treasured by the ancient civilizations of Mesopotamia, Egypt, China, Greece, and Rome. They valued it for its vivid, exquisite color, and prized it as much as they prized other blue gems like sapphire and turquoise.

Ancient Egyptians used it in cosmetics for thousands of years. It was also used in the funeral mask of Tutankhamun. Lapis lazuli legends are among the oldest in the world. The myth of Inanna, the Sumerian goddess of love, and her descent and return from the underworld may date back as early as 4,000 BCE. Inanna entered the underworld bearing the insignias of her rank, including a lapis lazuli necklace and rod. In ancient Sumer, lapis lazuli had timeless associations with royalty and deities. People believed the stone contained “the soul of the deity, who would ‘rejoice in its owner’”

By the end of the Middle Ages, lapis lazuli began to be exported to Europe, where it was ground into powder and made into ultramarine, the finest and most expensive of all blue pigments. Ultramarine was used by some of the most important artists of the Renaissance and Baroque, including Masaccio, Perugino, Titian and Vermeer.  Michaelangelo used the pigment in his beautiful works of art in the Sistine Chapel.

Lapis Lazuli holds a whole host of healing properties and is known for revealing deep inner truths, inviting you into authenticity and showing you the magic of your own mighty will. Lapis is a very important and history-rich gemstone; everyone should have a least one piece of jewelry with lapis in their collection!  Start your lapis journey with our Silver and Lapis Dangles!
